4) How do you Spread Bet on the 888 Market to Go Up?
888 Spread Trading Example
Should you decide to spread bet on UK shares like 888 then, on visiting a spread trading website such as IG Index, at the moment you would see a spread betting price of 46.9p - 47.6p.
Therefore, you can spread trade on 888 to move higher than 47.6p or to move lower than 46.9p.
When making a spread bet, investors bet on every unit the market increases or decreases; for the 888 market a unit is 1p of the share's price movement.
Accordingly, you might decide to spread bet £25 for every penny 888 moves up or down.
Spread Betting on the Market to Increase
If you bought 888 at 47.6p and the shares increased then the spread might change to 50.7p - 51.4p. Therefore, you might want to close your bet for a profit by selling at 50.7p.
Profits (or Losses) = (settlement value of the market - opening value of the market) x stake per penny
Profits (or Losses) = (50.7p - 47.6p) x £25 per penny stake
Profits (or Losses) = 3.1p x £25 per penny
Profits (or Losses) = £77.50 profit
The markets can of course fall, if the market had decreased to, as an example, 44.1p - 44.8p, you might decide to close your trade to limit your losses. If that were to happen, you would sell your trade at 44.1p.
Therefore, with the same £25 per penny stake:
Profits (or Losses) = (settlement value of the market - opening value of the market) x stake per penny
Profits (or Losses) = (44.1p - 47.6p) x £25 per penny stake
Profits (or Losses) = -3.5p x £25 per penny
Profits (or Losses) = -£87.50 loss
5) How do you Spread Bet on the 888 Market to Go Down?
A major benefit of placing a spread bet is that you can sell the markets.
At the beginning of this example, the spread betting price was 46.9p - 47.6p.
If you were to sell 888 at 46.9p and the shares fell then the market might be re-priced at 43.3p - 44.0p. If that happened, you might choose to close your bet for a profit at 44.0p.
Profits (or Losses) = (opening value of the market - settlement value of the market) x stake per penny
Profits (or Losses) = (46.9p - 44.0p) x £25 per penny stake
Profits (or Losses) = 2.9p x £25 per penny
Profits (or Losses) = £72.50 profit
The markets can of course rise, if the market had risen to, for example, 49.4p - 50.1p, you might decide to close your bet to limit your losses. Assuming this was the case, you would buy your spread bet at 50.1p.
You would do this with the same £25 per penny stake:
Profits (or Losses) = (opening value of the market - settlement value of the market) x stake per penny
Profits (or Losses) = (46.9p - 50.1p) x £25 per penny stake
Profits (or Losses) = -3.2p x £25 per penny
Profits (or Losses) = -£80.00 loss
