Atlas Copco Financial Spread Trading Example
If you decide to spread bet on Swedish shares such as Atlas Copco then, on visiting a spread betting website such as Financial Spreads, you would currently find a spread trading price of 130.8 SEK - 131.5 SEK.
This means you could spread trade on Atlas Copco shares to move higher than 131.5 SEK or to move lower than 130.8 SEK.
When you spread bet, you bet on every unit the market moves up or down. For the Atlas Copco market a unit is 1 Swedish Krona of the share's price movement.
Accordingly, you could decide to bet £15 for every Krona that the Atlas Copco share price goes up or down.
Betting on the Market to Rise
If you bought Atlas Copco at 131.5 SEK and the shares went up then you might see the spread move to 139.4 SEK - 140.1 SEK. Assuming this was the case, you might decide to close your spread bet for a profit by selling at 139.4 SEK.
Profits (or Losses) = (final level of the market - opening level of the market) x stake per Krona
Profits (or Losses) = (139.4 SEK - 131.5 SEK) x £15 per Krona stake
Profits (or Losses) = 7.9 SEK x £15 per Krona
Profits (or Losses) = £118.50 profit
On the other hand, if the market had decreased to, for example, 124.3 SEK - 125.0 SEK, you could choose to close your trade to prevent further losses. If so, you would sell back at 124.3 SEK.
With the same £15 per Krona stake:
Profits (or Losses) = (final level of the market - opening level of the market) x stake per Krona
Profits (or Losses) = (124.3 SEK - 131.5 SEK) x £15 per Krona stake
Profits (or Losses) = -7.2 SEK x £15 per Krona
Profits (or Losses) = -£108.00 loss
5) How do you Spread Bet on the ABB Market to Go Down?
A major advantage of spread trading is that investors can sell the markets.
At the start of the example, the market was 130.8 SEK - 131.5 SEK.
If you were to go short of Atlas Copco at 130.8 SEK and the shares decreased then the spread might change to 121.9 SEK - 122.6 SEK. Therefore, you might choose to close your bet for a profit at 122.6 SEK.

So, with the same £15 per Krona stake:
Profits (or Losses) = (opening level of the market - final level of the market) x stake per Krona
Profits (or Losses) = (130.8 SEK - 138.4 SEK) x £15 per Krona stake
Profits (or Losses) = -7.6 SEK x £15 per Krona
Profits (or Losses) = -£114.00 loss
