If you are going to spread bet on German shares like Adidas then, looking at a spread trading site like Financial Spreads, you would currently find a spread trading price of €37.23 - €37.33.
This means you can spread trade on Adidas shares to move above €37.33 or below €37.23.
When spread betting, investors bet on every unit the market rises or falls; specifically, for the Adidas market a unit is €0.01 of the share's price movement.
For example, you might decide to spread bet £2 for every cent that the Adidas share price goes up or down.
Buying - Spread Betting on the Market to Rise
If you were to buy Adidas at €37.33 and the shares went up then you might see the spread move to €37.89 - €37.99. If so, you might choose to close your trade for a profit at €37.89.
Profit or Loss = (closing value of the market - initial value of the market) x stake per cent
Profit or Loss = (€37.89 - €37.33) x £2 per cent stake
Profit or Loss = €0.56 x £2 per cent
Profit or Loss = £112 profit
Financial markets also move down, if the market had decreased to €36.73 - €36.83, you may want to close your bet to limit your losses. If that were to happen, you would sell the market at €36.73.
With the same £2 per cent stake:
Profit or Loss = (closing value of the market - initial value of the market) x stake per cent
Profit or Loss = (€36.73 - €37.33) x £2 per cent stake
Profit or Loss = -€0.60 x £2 per cent
Profit or Loss = -£120 loss
5) How do you Spread Bet on the Adidas Market to Go Down?
A useful benefit of placing a spread bet is that you can go short of the markets.
The initial spread was €37.23 - €37.33.
If you were to go short of Adidas at €37.23 and the shares fell then the spread could move to €36.66 - €36.76. If this were the case, you might want to close your spread bet for a profit by buying at €36.76.
