4) How do you Spread Bet on the AXA Market to Go Up?
AXA Financial Spread Trading Example
Should you decide to spread trade on French shares such as AXA then, looking at a spread betting company website, you would currently see a spread betting price of €15.35 - €15.39.
As a result, you could bet on AXA shares to go above €15.39 or below €15.35.
With spread betting, investors bet on every unit the market moves up or down. In the case of the AXA market a unit is €0.01 of the share's price movement.
For example, you could decide to bet £3 for every cent that the AXA share price increases or decreases.
Spread Betting on the Market to Increase
If you were to go long of AXA at €15.39 and the shares went up then the market might be re-priced at €15.77 - €15.81. If that happened, you might choose to close your spread bet for a profit at €15.77.
Your Profits (or Losses) = (closing value of the market - initial value of the market) x stake per cent
Your Profits (or Losses) = (€15.77 - €15.39) x £3 per cent stake
Your Profits (or Losses) = €0.38 x £3 per cent
Your Profits (or Losses) = £114 profit
Financial markets also move down, if the market had decreased to, for example, €15.03 - €15.07, you might want to close your trade to prevent further losses. If this were the case, you would sell the market at €15.03.
With the same £3 per cent stake:
Your Profits (or Losses) = (closing value of the market - initial value of the market) x stake per cent
Your Profits (or Losses) = (€15.03 - €15.39) x £3 per cent stake
Your Profits (or Losses) = -€0.36 x £3 per cent
Your Profits (or Losses) = -£108 loss
5) How do you Spread Bet on the AXA Market to Go Down?
One of the benefits of using a spread bet is that you can sell the markets.
To start with, the market was €15.35 - €15.39.
If you were to go short of AXA at €15.35 and the shares went down then the spread might change to €14.96 - €15.00. If so, you might decide to close your spread trade at €15.00.

Your Profits (or Losses) = (€15.35 - €15.67) x £3 per cent stake
Your Profits (or Losses) = -€0.32 x £3 per cent
