4) How do you Spread Bet on the Brazil Index Market to Go Up?
Brazil Index Spread Betting Example
If you are going to spread trade on an index such as the Brazil Index then, looking at a spread trading site like Financial Spreads or Capital Spreads, at the moment you would find a spread of 71435 - 71495.
This means you can spread bet on the Brazil Index to move above 71495 or below 71435.
When spread betting, investors bet on every unit the market goes up or down. For the Brazil Index market a unit is 1 point of the index's price movement.
For this example, you might decide to trade £1 for every point the Brazil Index increases or decreases.
Spread Betting on Brazil Stock Market to Increase
If you were to buy the Brazil Index at 71495 and the index increased then the spread could change to 71638 - 71698. Therefore, you could close your trade for a profit by selling at 71638.
Profit or Loss = (settlement price of the market - initial price of the market) x stake per point
Profit or Loss = (71638 - 71495) x £1 per point stake
Profit or Loss = 143 points x £1 per point
Profit or Loss = £143 profit
The markets can of course fall, if the market had decreased to, as an example, 71370 - 71430, you may want to close your bet to restrict your losses. If this were the case, you would sell the market at 71370.
You would do this with the same £1 per point stake:
Profit or Loss = (settlement price of the market - initial price of the market) x stake per point
Profit or Loss = (71370 - 71495) x £1 per point stake
Profit or Loss = -125 points x £1 per point
Profit or Loss = -£125 loss
5) How do you Spread Bet on the Brazil Index Market to Go Down?
A major benefit of placing a spread trade is that investors can go short of the markets.
To start with, the spread was 71435 - 71495.
If you were to go short of the Brazil Index at 71435 and the index decreased then the market might be re-priced at 71239 - 71299. If that were to happen, you might decide to close your spread bet for a profit at 71299.
Profit or Loss = (initial price of the market - settlement price of the market) x stake per point
Profit or Loss = (71435 - 71299) x £1 per point stake
Profit or Loss = 136 points x £1 per point
Profit or Loss = £136 profit
Financial markets also move up, if the market increased to 71494 - 71554, you may decide to close your trade to prevent further losses. Assuming this was the case, you would buy at 71554.
So, with the same £1 per point stake:
Profit or Loss = (initial price of the market - settlement price of the market) x stake per point
Profit or Loss = (71435 - 71554) x £1 per point stake
Profit or Loss = -119 points x £1 per point
Profit or Loss = -£119 loss
