2) Where can I find Real-time Spread Betting Prices for Commodity Markets?
Please see the above tables. Where a company offers the relevant market they will also provide clients with live prices on that market.
3) Where can I find Live Charts / Candlestick Charts for Commodity Markets?
Spread betting companies often offer a variety of free data to their clients (accounts are subject to status, terms and conditions).
The most popular data, apart from live prices, tends to be the candlestick charts. The time period of the charts can usually be varied. You can often alter the candlestick charts to show market movements in the order of 1 minute, 2 minutes, 5 minutes, 10minutes, 1 hour, 1 day or 1 week periods.
With a number of the charts you can also update the settings to help your technical analysis. For example you can add Bollinger Bands and 20, 50 and 100 point Moving Averages.

4) How do you Spread Bet on Commodity Markets to Go Up?
US Crude Oil Spread Betting Example
If you are going to spread trade on a commodity such as US Crude Oil then, looking at a spread trading site like Financial Spreads, you would currently see a spread trading price of $76.77 - $76.82.
That means you can spread bet on US Crude Oil to move above $76.82 or below $76.77.
When making a spread bet, you trade on every unit the market goes up or down. In the case of the US Crude Oil market a unit is $0.01 of the commodity's price movement.
For instance, you could choose to trade £2 for every $0.01 US Crude Oil rises or falls.
Betting on the Market to Rise
If you were to go long of US Crude Oil at $76.82 and the commodity rose then the spread might change to $77.51 - $77.56. Therefore, you could close your trade at $77.51.
Your Profits (or Losses) = (final level of the market - initial level of the market) x stake per $0.01
Your Profits (or Losses) = ($77.51 - $76.82) x £2 per $0.01 stake
Your Profits (or Losses) = $0.69 x £2 per $0.01
Your Profits (or Losses) = £138 profit
On the other hand, if the market had decreased to, as an example, $76.17 - $76.22, you could choose to close your trade to limit your losses. Assuming this was the case, you would sell your trade at $76.17.
So, with the same £2 per $0.01 stake:
Your Profits (or Losses) = (final level of the market - initial level of the market) x stake per $0.01
Your Profits (or Losses) = ($76.17 - $76.82) x £2 per $0.01 stake
Your Profits (or Losses) = -$0.65 x £2 per $0.01
Your Profits (or Losses) = -£130 loss
5) How do you Spread Bet on Commodity Markets to Go Down?
One of the benefits of spread trading is that investors can sell the markets.
If you recall, initially the market was $76.77 - $76.82.
If you were to sell US Crude Oil at $76.77 and the commodity went down then you might see the spread move to $76.06 - $76.11. If so, you might choose to close your trade for a profit by buying at $76.11.
Your Profits (or Losses) = (initial level of the market - final level of the market) x stake per $0.01
Your Profits (or Losses) = ($76.77 - $76.11) x £2 per $0.01 stake
Your Profits (or Losses) = $0.66 x £2 per $0.01
Your Profits (or Losses) = £132 profit
Of course, if the market had increased to, as an example, $77.34 - $77.39, you may want to close your spread bet to restrict your losses. If that were to happen, you would buy the market at $77.39.
Therefore, with the same £2 per $0.01 stake:
Your Profits (or Losses) = (initial level of the market - final level of the market) x stake per $0.01
Your Profits (or Losses) = ($76.77 - $77.39) x £2 per $0.01 stake
Your Profits (or Losses) = -$0.62 x £2 per $0.01
Your Profits (or Losses) = -£124 loss
US Crude Oil (January) Futures spread betting prices correct as of 25-Nov-09.
Note - Spread Betting carries a high level of risk to your capital and you can lose more than your initial investment, it may not be suitable for all investors. Ensure you only speculate with money that you can afford to lose and that you fully understand the risks involved and seek independent financial advice where necessary.
