4) How do you Spread Bet on the East Asiatic Company Market to Go Up?
East Asiatic Company Trading Example
If you are going to spread trade on Danish shares like East Asiatic Company then, looking at a spread betting website such as IG Index, at the moment you would see a spread trading price of 143.7 DKK - 144.8 DKK.
This means you can spread trade on East Asiatic Company shares to move higher than 144.8 DKK or to move lower than 143.7 DKK.
With spread betting, investors bet on every unit the market moves up or down; with the East Asiatic Company market a unit is 1 Danish Krone of the share's price movement.
For instance, you might decide to trade £15 for every Krone that the East Asiatic Company share price increases or decreases.
Betting on the Market to Rise
If you were to buy East Asiatic Company at 144.8 DKK and the shares increased then you might see the spread move to 150.6 DKK - 151.7 DKK. If so, you could close your spread bet at 150.6 DKK.

Financial markets also move down, if the market were to drop to, for example, 140.1 DKK - 141.2 DKK, you may want to close your trade to prevent further losses. If that were to happen, you would sell at 140.1 DKK.
So, with the same £15 per Krone stake:
P&L = (closing price of the market - initial price of the market) x stake per Krone
P&L = (140.1 DKK - 144.8 DKK) x £15 per Krone stake
P&L = -4.7 DKK x £15 per Krone
P&L = -£70.50 loss
5) How do you Spread Bet on the East Asiatic Company Market to Go Down?
One of the many advantages of spread trading is that you can go short of the markets.
At the beginning of this example, the spread was 143.7 DKK - 144.8 DKK.
If you were to go short of East Asiatic Company at 143.7 DKK and the shares went down then the spread could change to 136.3 DKK - 137.4 DKK. Assuming this was the case, you might decide to close your bet for a profit by buying at 137.4 DKK.
P&L = (initial price of the market - closing price of the market) x stake per Krone

P&L = 6.3 DKK x £15 per Krone
P&L = £94.50 profit
The markets can of course rise, if the market had risen to, for example, 147.7 DKK - 148.8 DKK, you may want to close your trade to limit your losses. If this were the case, you would buy back at 148.8 DKK.
With the same £15 per Krone stake:
P&L = (initial price of the market - closing price of the market) x stake per Krone
P&L = (143.7 DKK - 148.8 DKK) x £15 per Krone stake
P&L = -5.1 DKK x £15 per Krone
P&L = -£76.50 loss
