4) How do you Spread Bet on the E.On Market to Go Up?
E.On Financial Spread Betting Example
If you are going to spread bet on German shares such as E.On then, on visiting a spread betting company's website, you may find a spread trading price of €27.12 - €27.20.
This means you could bet on E.On shares to move above €27.20 or below €27.12.
When spread betting, you bet on every unit the market rises or falls; with the E.On market a unit is €0.01 of the share's price movement.
In this case, you could choose to bet £2 for every cent that the E.On share price goes up or down.
Spread Betting on the Market to Rise
If you were to buy E.On at €27.20 and the shares increased then the market might be re-priced at €27.74 - €27.82. If that happened, you might decide to close your spread bet for a profit by selling at €27.74.
Profit or Loss = (settlement price of the market - initial price of the market) x stake per cent
Profit or Loss = (€27.74 - €27.20) x £2 per cent stake
Profit or Loss = €0.54 x £2 per cent
Profit or Loss = £108 profit
The markets can of course fall, if the market were to drop down to, for example, €26.72 - €26.80, you may want to close your trade to prevent further losses. Therefore, you would sell the market at €26.72.
You would close your bet with the same £2 per cent stake:
Profit or Loss = (settlement price of the market - initial price of the market) x stake per cent
Profit or Loss = (€26.72 - €27.20) x £2 per cent stake
Profit or Loss = -€0.48 x £2 per cent
Profit or Loss = -£96 loss
5) How do you Spread Bet on the E.On Market to Go Down?
When we started this example, the spread was €27.12 - €27.20.
If you were to sell E.On at €27.12 and the shares fell then the market might be re-priced at €26.55 - €26.63. In that case, you could close your spread bet for a profit by buying at €26.63.
Profit or Loss = (initial price of the market - settlement price of the market) x stake per cent
Profit or Loss = (€27.12 - €26.63) x £2 per cent stake
Profit or Loss = €0.49 x £2 per cent
Profit or Loss = £98 profit
Markets can also rise, if the market were to rise to €27.47 - €27.55, you might want to close your trade to restrict your losses. If so, you would buy back at €27.55.
So, with the same £2 per cent stake:
Profit or Loss = (initial price of the market - settlement price of the market) x stake per cent
Profit or Loss = (€27.12 - €27.55) x £2 per cent stake
Profit or Loss = -€0.43 x £2 per cent
Profit or Loss = -£86 loss
