Euro - Australian Dollar Spread Trading Example
If you decide to spread bet on a foreign exchange pair like the Euro - Australian Dollar then, looking at a spread betting website like Capital Spreads, at the time of writing you would find a spread of A$1.5478 - A$1.5490.
Therefore, you could spread trade on the Euro - Australian Dollar to go higher than A$1.5490 or to go lower than A$1.5478.
When spread betting, investors bet on every unit the market moves up or down; in the case of the Euro - Australian Dollar market a unit is A$0.0001 of the forex pair's price movement.
So, you might choose to trade £2 for every A$0.0001 the Euro - Australian Dollar moves up or down.
Buying - Spread Betting on the Market to Go Up
If you were to go long of the Euro - Australian Dollar at A$1.5490 and the forex pair increased then the spread might become A$1.5536 - A$1.5548. If so, you might choose to close your spread bet for a profit by selling at A$1.5536.

The markets can of course fall, if the market were to drop down to A$1.5447 - A$1.5459, you may decide to close your spread bet to restrict your losses. If that were to happen, you would sell the market at A$1.5447.
You would close your bet with the same £2 per A$0.0001 stake:
Profit/Loss = (closing level of the market - opening level of the market) x stake per A$0.0001
Profit/Loss = (A$1.5447 - A$1.5490) x £2 per A$0.0001 stake
Profit/Loss = -A$0.0043 x £2 per A$0.0001

5) How do you Spread Bet on the Euro - Australian Dollar Market to Go Down?
An advantage of spread betting is that investors can short the markets.
At the beginning of this example, the spread was A$1.5478 - A$1.5490.
If you were to sell the Euro - Australian Dollar at A$1.5478 and the forex pair went down then the spread could become A$1.5424 - A$1.5436. Therefore, you might decide to close your trade for a profit by buying at A$1.5436.
Profit/Loss = (opening level of the market - closing level of the market) x stake per A$0.0001
Profit/Loss = (A$1.5478 - A$1.5436) x £2 per A$0.0001 stake

Profit/Loss = (opening level of the market - closing level of the market) x stake per A$0.0001
