The most popular indices data, apart from live prices, tends to be the candlestick charts. The time period of the charts can usually be varied. You can often alter the candlestick charts to show market movements in the order of 1 minute, 2 minutes, 5 minutes, 10minutes, 1 hour, 1 day or 1 week periods.

4) How do you Spread Bet on the FTSE 250 Market to Go Up?
FTSE 250 Spread Trading Example
If you decide to spread bet on an index like the FTSE 250 then, looking at a spread betting website like Financial Spread, you may see a spread of 9264 - 9294.
That means you could spread trade on the FTSE 250 to move higher than 9294 or to move lower than 9264.
When spread betting, you trade on every unit the market goes up or down. For the FTSE 250 market a unit is 1 point of the index's price movement.
For this example, you might choose to bet £2 for every point the FTSE 250 rises or falls.
Spread Betting on the Market to Rise
If you were to buy the FTSE 250 at 9294 and the index increased then the spread might change to 9364 - 9394. If that happened, you might decide to close your bet for a profit at 9364.
Profit or Loss = (closing level of the market - opening level of the market) x stake per point
Profit or Loss = (9364 - 9294) x £2 per point stake
Profit or Loss = 70 points x £2 per point
Profit or Loss = £140 profit
On the other hand, if the market decreased to, as an example, 9229 - 9259, you could choose to close your bet to limit your losses. Therefore, you would sell your trade at 9229.
Therefore, with the same £2 per point stake:
Profit or Loss = (closing level of the market - opening level of the market) x stake per point
Profit or Loss = (9229 - 9294) x £2 per point stake
Profit or Loss = -65 points x £2 per point
Profit or Loss = -£130 loss
5) How do you Spread Bet on the FTSE 250 Market to Go Down?
One useful benefit of placing a spread bet is that investors can short the markets.
When we started this example, the market was priced at 9264 - 9294.
If you were to go short of the FTSE 250 at 9264 and the index went down then the spread could move to 9168 - 9198. If that were to happen, you might decide to close your spread bet for a profit at 9198.
Profit or Loss = (opening level of the market - closing level of the market) x stake per point
Profit or Loss = (9264 - 9198) x £2 per point stake
Profit or Loss = 66 points x £2 per point
Profit or Loss = £132 profit
On the other hand, if the market increased to, as an example, 9296 - 9326, you might decide to close your spread bet to limit your losses. If this were the case, you would buy at 9326.
You would close your bet with the same £2 per point stake:
Profit or Loss = (opening level of the market - closing level of the market) x stake per point
Profit or Loss = (9264 - 9326) x £2 per point stake
Profit or Loss = -62 points x £2 per point
Profit or Loss = -£124 loss
