If you are going to spread bet on South African shares like Impala Platinum then, looking at a spread trading website, you would currently find a spread betting price of 18,997c - 19,075c.
Therefore, you can bet on Impala Platinum shares to increase higher than 19,075c or to decrease lower than 18,997c.
With spread betting, you bet on every unit the market rises or falls; for the Impala Platinum market a unit is 1 South African cent of the share's price movement.
As an example, you could choose to spread bet £1 for every cent that the Impala Platinum share price rises or falls.
Spread Betting on the Market to Rise
If you bought Impala Platinum at 19,075c and the shares rose then the spread could become 19,228c - 19,306c. Therefore, you might decide to close your spread bet for a profit by selling at 19,228c.
Profit or Loss = (settlement price of the market - opening price of the market) x stake per cent
Profit or Loss = (19,228c - 19,075c) x £1 per cent stake

Nevertheless, if the market decreased to 18,932c - 19,010c, you may decide to close your bet to restrict your losses. If so, you would sell the market at 18,932c.
With the same £1 per cent stake:
Profit or Loss = (settlement price of the market - opening price of the market) x stake per cent
Profit or Loss = (18,932c - 19,075c) x £1 per cent stake
Profit or Loss = -143c x £1 per cent
Profit or Loss = -£143 loss
5) How do you Spread Bet on the Impala Platinum Market to Go Down?
One major benefit of placing a spread bet is that you can sell the markets.
When we started this example, the price was 18,997c - 19,075c.
If you were to go short of Impala Platinum at 18,997c and the shares went down then the spread could move to 18,775c - 18,853c. Assuming this was the case, you might decide to close your spread trade at 18,853c.

Profit or Loss = (18,997c - 19,132c) x £1 per cent stake
Profit or Loss = -135c x £1 per cent
Profit or Loss = -£135 loss
