4) How do you Spread Bet on the Indian Nifty 50 Market to Go Up?
Indian Nifty 50 Financial Spread Betting Example
If you are going to spread bet on an index such as the Indian Nifty 50 then, looking at a spread betting site like Capital Spreads, at the time of writing you would see a spread of 5106 - 5114.
Therefore, you can spread bet on the Indian Nifty 50 to go higher than 5114 or to go lower than 5106.
When you spread bet, you trade on every unit the market increases or decreases; with the Indian Nifty 50 market a unit is 1 point of the index's price movement.
With this example, you could decide to trade £3 for every point the Indian Nifty 50 moves up or down.
Spread Betting on the Nifty 50 to Rise
If you were to buy the Indian Nifty 50 at 5114 and the index went up then the spread could become 5142 - 5150. If so, you might decide to close your trade for a profit at 5142.
P&L = (settlement price of the market - opening value of the market) x stake per point
P&L = (5142 - 5114) x £3 per point stake
P&L = 28 points x £3 per point
P&L = £84 profit
However, if the market decreased to 5088 - 5096, you might decide to close your spread bet to restrict your losses. Therefore, you would sell back at 5088.
So, with the same £3 per point stake:
P&L = (settlement price of the market - opening value of the market) x stake per point
P&L = (5088 - 5114) x £3 per point stake
P&L = -26 points x £3 per point
P&L = -£78 loss
5) How do you Spread Bet on the Indian Nifty 50 Market to Go Down?
A major benefit of placing a spread bet is that you can short the markets.
The initial spread betting price was 5106 - 5114.
If you were to go short of the Indian Nifty 50 at 5106 and the index went down then the spread could become 5071 - 5079. Assuming this was the case, you might decide to take your profits by closing your spread trade at 5079.
P&L = (opening value of the market - settlement price of the market) x stake per point
P&L = (5106 - 5079) x £3 per point stake
P&L = 27 points x £3 per point
P&L = £81 profit
On the other hand, if the market had moved up to, for example, 5122 - 5130, you may decide to close your trade to restrict your losses. If this were the case, you would buy at 5130.
You would close your bet with the same £3 per point stake:
P&L = (opening value of the market - settlement price of the market) x stake per point
P&L = (5106 - 5130) x £3 per point stake
P&L = -24 points x £3 per point
P&L = -£72 loss
