Should you decide to spread trade on Indian shares like Tata Steel then, looking at a firm like Financial Spreads, at the moment you would see a spread of Rs. 641.99 - Rs. 643.66.
Therefore, you can spread trade on Tata Steel shares to increase higher than Rs. 643.66 or to decrease lower than Rs. 641.99.
With spread betting, you trade on every unit the market increases or decreases. With the Tata Steel market a unit is 1 Rupee of the share's price movement.
For this example, you might choose to spread bet £5 for every Rupee that the Tata Steel share price goes up or down.
Spread Betting on the Indian Shares to Rise
If you were to go long of Tata Steel at Rs. 643.66 and the shares rose then the spread might become Rs. 662.97 - Rs. 664.64. Assuming this was the case, you might choose to close your trade for a profit by selling at Rs. 662.97.
Profits (or Losses) = (final price of the market - opening value of the market) x stake per Rupee
Profits (or Losses) = (Rs. 662.97 - Rs. 643.66) x £5 per Rupee stake
Profits (or Losses) = Rs. 19.31 x £5 per Rupee
Profits (or Losses) = £96.55 profit
Nevertheless, if the market had moved down to, as an example, Rs. 625.96 - Rs. 627.63, you may want to close your spread bet to limit your losses. If that were to happen, you would sell your spread bet at Rs. 625.96.
With the same £5 per Rupee stake:
Profits (or Losses) = (final price of the market - opening value of the market) x stake per Rupee
Profits (or Losses) = (Rs. 625.96 - Rs. 643.66) x £5 per Rupee stake
Profits (or Losses) = -Rs. 17.70 x £5 per Rupee
Profits (or Losses) = -£88.50 loss
Spread Betting on the Indian Shares to Fall
One of the benefits of using a spread bet is that spread betting companies let sell the markets.
If you recall, initially the market was Rs. 641.99 - Rs. 643.66.
If you were to sell Tata Steel at Rs. 641.99 and the shares decreased then the spread could change to Rs. 618.17 - Rs. 619.84. If so, you might decide to close your bet for a profit at Rs. 619.84.
Profits (or Losses) = (opening value of the market - final price of the market) x stake per Rupee
Profits (or Losses) = (Rs. 641.99 - Rs. 619.84) x £5 per Rupee stake
Profits (or Losses) = Rs. 22.15 x £5 per Rupee
Profits (or Losses) = £110.75 profit
Financial markets also move up, if the market had moved up to, as an example, Rs. 660.62 - Rs. 662.29, you may decide to close your bet to limit your losses. Therefore, you would buy your spread bet at Rs. 662.29.
Therefore, with the same £5 per Rupee stake:
Profits (or Losses) = (opening value of the market - final price of the market) x stake per Rupee
Profits (or Losses) = (Rs. 641.99 - Rs. 662.29) x £5 per Rupee stake
Profits (or Losses) = -Rs. 20.30 x £5 per Rupee
Profits (or Losses) = -£101.50 loss
