Spread betting companies often offer a variety of free data to their clients (accounts are subject to status, terms and conditions).
The most popular indices data, apart from live prices, tends to be the candlestick charts. The time period of the charts can usually be varied. You can often alter the candlestick charts to show market movements in the order of 1 minute, 2 minutes, 5 minutes, 10minutes, 1 hour, 1 day or 1 week periods.

4) How do you Spread Bet on the Nasdaq Market to Go Up?
Nasdaq 100 Spread Betting Example
If you decide to spread bet on an index such as the Nasdaq 100 then, on visiting a spread betting website, you would currently see a spread of 1770 - 1772.
As a result, you could spread trade on the Nasdaq 100 to go higher than 1772 or to go lower than 1770.
When spread betting, investors trade on every unit the market moves up or down. For the Nasdaq 100 market a unit is 1 point of the index's price movement.
As an example, you might decide to spread bet £2 for every point the Nasdaq 100 increases or decreases.
Buying - Spread Betting on the Market to Go Up
If you were to go long of the Nasdaq 100 at 1772 and the index increased then the spread could change to 1807 - 1809. If that happened, you might decide to close your spread bet for a profit at 1807.
Profits (or Losses) = (closing price of the market - initial price of the market) x stake per point
Profits (or Losses) = (1807 - 1772) x £2 per point stake
Profits (or Losses) = 35 points x £2 per point
Profits (or Losses) = £70 profit
Markets can also fall, if the market were to drop to, as an example, 1737 - 1739, you may want to close your bet to limit your losses. If this were the case, you would sell back at 1737.
Therefore, with the same £2 per point stake:
Profits (or Losses) = (closing price of the market - initial price of the market) x stake per point
Profits (or Losses) = (1737 - 1772) x £2 per point stake
Profits (or Losses) = -35 points x £2 per point
Profits (or Losses) = -£70 loss
5) How do you Spread Bet on the Nasdaq Market to Go Down?
A key benefit of spread trading is that you can short the markets.
If you recall, initially the market was 1770 - 1772.
If you were to go short of the Nasdaq 100 at 1770 and the index decreased then the market might be re-priced at 1731 - 1733. In that case, you might decide to take your profits by closing your spread bet at 1733.
Profits (or Losses) = (initial price of the market - closing price of the market) x stake per point
Profits (or Losses) = (1770 - 1733) x £2 per point stake
Profits (or Losses) = 37 points x £2 per point
Profits (or Losses) = £74 profit
Financial markets also move up, if the market increased to, as an example, 1805 - 1807, you might want to close your spread bet to prevent further losses. Therefore, you would buy the market at 1807.
With the same £2 per point stake:
Profits (or Losses) = (initial price of the market - closing price of the market) x stake per point
Profits (or Losses) = (1770 - 1807) x £2 per point stake
Profits (or Losses) = -37 points x £2 per point
Profits (or Losses) = -£74 loss
