National Australia Bank Financial Spread Trading Example
If you decide to spread bet on Australian shares such as National Australia Bank then, on visiting a spread trading company's website, you may see a spread betting price of A$26.69 - A$26.76.
Therefore, you can spread bet on National Australia Bank shares to increase above A$26.76 or decrease below A$26.69.
With spread trading, you bet on every unit the market increases or decreases; in the case of the National Australia Bank market a unit is A$0.01 of the share's price movement.
For instance, you might decide to trade £2 for every cent that the National Australia Bank share price goes up or down.
Spread Betting on the Market to Rise
If you were to go long of National Australia Bank at A$26.76 and the shares went up then the spread could change to A$27.36 - A$27.43. If that were to happen, you might want to close your trade for a profit by selling at A$27.36.
Profit or Loss = (final level of the market - opening level of the market) x stake per cent
Profit or Loss = (A$27.36 - A$26.76) x £2 per cent stake
Profit or Loss = A$0.60 x £2 per cent
Profit or Loss = £120 profit
Financial markets also move down, if the market decreased to A$26.20 - A$26.27, you could choose to close your trade to limit your losses. If this were the case, you would sell at A$26.20.
You would close your bet with the same £2 per cent stake:
Profit or Loss = (final level of the market - opening level of the market) x stake per cent
Profit or Loss = (A$26.20 - A$26.76) x £2 per cent stake
Profit or Loss = -A$0.56 x £2 per cent
Profit or Loss = -£112 loss
5) How do you Spread Bet on the National Australia Bank Market to Go Down?
A useful benefit of placing a spread trade is that investors can go short of the markets.
If you recall, initially the market was priced at A$26.69 - A$26.76.
If you were to go short of National Australia Bank at A$26.69 and the shares went down then the spread might become A$26.08 - A$26.15. In that case, you could close your spread bet at A$26.15.

Profit or Loss = (A$26.69 - A$27.19) x £2 per cent stake
Profit or Loss = -A$0.50 x £2 per cent
Profit or Loss = -£100 loss
