If you decide to spread bet on Swedish shares such as Nordea Bank then, on visiting a spread betting company website such as Financial Spreads, you might find a spread trading price of 73.3 SEK - 73.9 SEK.
This means you can bet on Nordea Bank shares to move above 73.9 SEK or below 73.3 SEK.
When spread betting, you trade on every unit the market moves up or down; with the Nordea Bank market a unit is 1 Swedish Krona of the share's price movement.
For example, you could decide to trade £15 for every Krona that the Nordea Bank share price moves up or down.
Buying - Spread Betting on the Market to Go Up
If you bought Nordea Bank at 73.9 SEK and the shares went up then the spread might become 79.4 SEK - 80.0 SEK. Assuming this was the case, you might want to close your bet for a profit by selling at 79.4 SEK.
Profit or Loss = (closing value of the market - initial value of the market) x stake per Krona
Profit or Loss = (79.4 SEK - 73.9 SEK) x £15 per Krona stake
Profit or Loss = 5.5 SEK x £15 per Krona
Profit or Loss = £82.50 profit
The markets can of course fall, if the market dropped to, as an example, 68.7 SEK - 69.3 SEK, you could choose to close your bet to limit your losses. If that were to happen, you would sell at 68.7 SEK.
So, with the same £15 per Krona stake:
Profit or Loss = (closing value of the market - initial value of the market) x stake per Krona
Profit or Loss = (68.7 SEK - 73.9 SEK) x £15 per Krona stake
Profit or Loss = -5.2 SEK x £15 per Krona
Profit or Loss = -£78.00 loss
5) How do you Spread Bet on the Nordea Bank Market to Go Down?
A major advantage of using a spread bet is that you can go short of the markets.
To start with, the market was 73.3 SEK - 73.9 SEK.
If you were to go short of Nordea Bank at 73.3 SEK and the shares decreased then the spread could change to 67.8 SEK - 68.4 SEK. If this were the case, you could close your bet for a profit by buying at 68.4 SEK.
