On the other hand, if the market decreased to, for example, 246.0 NOK - 247.0 NOK, you may want to close your spread bet to restrict your losses. If that were to happen, you would sell back at 246.0 NOK.
So, with the same £8 per Krone stake:
Profit/Loss = (final level of the market - initial level of the market) x stake per Krone
Profit/Loss = (246.0 NOK - 260.3 NOK) x £8 per Krone stake
Profit/Loss = -14.3 NOK x £8 per Krone
Profit/Loss = -£114.40 loss
Spread Betting on the Norwegian Shares to Decrease
One benefit of placing a spread bet is that investors can short the markets.
To start with, the spread was 259.3 NOK - 260.3 NOK.
If you were to sell Fred Olsen Energy at 259.3 NOK and the shares fell then the spread could move to 243.4 NOK - 244.4 NOK. If this were the case, you might choose to close your trade for a profit at 244.4 NOK.
Profit/Loss = (initial level of the market - final level of the market) x stake per Krone
Profit/Loss = (259.3 NOK - 244.4 NOK) x £8 per Krone stake
Profit/Loss = 14.9 NOK x £8 per Krone
Profit/Loss = £119.20 profit
Nevertheless, if the market had moved up to, for example, 274.7 NOK - 275.7 NOK, you could choose to close your spread bet to prevent further losses. If so, you would buy back at 275.7 NOK.
Therefore, with the same £8 per Krone stake:
Profit/Loss = (initial level of the market - final level of the market) x stake per Krone
Profit/Loss = (259.3 NOK - 275.7 NOK) x £8 per Krone stake
Profit/Loss = -16.4 NOK x £8 per Krone
Profit/Loss = -£131.20 loss
