Securitias Financial Spread Betting Example
If you decide to spread bet on Swedish shares such as Securitias then, on visiting a spread trading website like Financial Spreads, at the time of writing you would see a spread trading price of 71.2 SEK - 71.9 SEK.
This means you could spread trade on Securitias shares to go above 71.9 SEK or below 71.2 SEK.
With spread betting, you trade on every unit the market moves up or down; in the case of the Securitias market a unit is 1 Swedish Krona of the share's price movement.
For example, you could decide to bet £15 for every Krona that the Securitias share price rises or falls.
Spread Betting on the Market to Increase
If you were to buy Securitias at 71.9 SEK and the shares increased then the market might be re-priced at 76.9 SEK - 77.6 SEK. Therefore, you might decide to take your profits by closing your spread trade at 76.9 SEK.
P&L = (final level of the market - initial level of the market) x stake per Krona
P&L = (76.9 SEK - 71.9 SEK) x £15 per Krona stake
P&L = 5.0 SEK x £15 per Krona
P&L = £75.00 profit
Financial markets also move down, if the market were to drop down to, for example, 66.5 SEK - 67.2 SEK, you might want to close your spread bet to limit your losses. If so, you would sell at 66.5 SEK.
You would close your bet with the same £15 per Krona stake:
P&L = (final level of the market - initial level of the market) x stake per Krona
P&L = (66.5 SEK - 71.9 SEK) x £15 per Krona stake
P&L = -5.4 SEK x £15 per Krona
P&L = -£81.00 loss
5) How do you Spread Bet on the Securitas Market to Go Down?
One of the many advantages of spread betting is that investors can short the markets.
When we began this example, the price was 71.2 SEK - 71.9 SEK.
If you were to go short of Securitias at 71.2 SEK and the shares decreased then the spread could move to 65.0 SEK - 65.7 SEK. In that case, you could close your trade for a profit by buying at 65.7 SEK.
P&L = (initial level of the market - final level of the market) x stake per Krona
P&L = (71.2 SEK - 65.7 SEK) x £15 per Krona stake
P&L = 5.5 SEK x £15 per Krona
P&L = £82.50 profit
Financial markets also move up, if the market had moved up to 76.4 SEK - 77.1 SEK, you might want to close your bet to prevent further losses. If that happened, you would buy back at 77.1 SEK.
You would do this with the same £15 per Krona stake:
P&L = (initial level of the market - final level of the market) x stake per Krona
P&L = (71.2 SEK - 77.1 SEK) x £15 per Krona stake
P&L = -5.9 SEK x £15 per Krona
P&L = -£88.50 loss
