As a result, you could bet on AngloGold shares to go above 32,679c or below 32,560c.
When spread betting, investors bet on every unit the market rises or falls. Specifically, for the AngloGold market a unit is 1 South African cent of the share's price movement.
So, you might choose to bet £1 for every cent that the AngloGold share price rises or falls.
Buying - Spread Betting on the South African Shares to Go Up

Profit or Loss = (32,516c - 32,679c) x £1 per cent stake
Profit or Loss = -163c x £1 per cent
Profit or Loss = -£163 loss
Selling - Spread Betting on the South African Shares to Go Down
One of the benefits of shares spread betting is that investors can go short of the markets.
Initially, the market was priced at 32,560c - 32,679c.
If you were to sell AngloGold at 32,560c and the shares decreased then the spread could move to 32,287c - 32,406c. If this were the case, you might choose to close your spread bet for a profit by buying at 32,406c.
Profit or Loss = (opening value of the market - settlement value of the market) x stake per cent

Profit or Loss = 154c x £1 per cent

However, if the market had increased to, for example, 32,612c - 32,731c, you may want to close your trade to limit your losses. If so, you would buy the market at 32,731c.
You would close your bet with the same £1 per cent stake:
Profit or Loss = (opening value of the market - settlement value of the market) x stake per cent
Profit or Loss = (32,560c - 32,731c) x £1 per cent stake
Profit or Loss = -171c x £1 per cent
Profit or Loss = -£171 loss
