Spread betting companies often offer a variety of free data to their clients (accounts are subject to status, terms and conditions).
The most popular Indices data, apart from live prices, tends to be the candlestick charts. The time period of the charts can usually be varied. You can often alter the candlestick charts to show market movements in the order of 1 minute, 2 minutes, 5 minutes, 10minutes, 1 hour, 1 day or 1 week periods.

4) How do you Spread Bet on the MDax 50 Market to Go Up?
MDax 50 Spread Trading Example
If you are going to spread trade on an index like the MDax 50 then, looking at a spread trading website like Capital Spreads, at the time of writing you would see a spread betting price of 9466 - 9496.
Therefore, you can spread bet on the MDax 50 to increase higher than 9496 or decrease lower than 9466.
If you are spread trading, you bet on every unit the market goes up or down; with the MDax 50 market a unit is 1 point of the index's price movement.
In this case, you might decide to bet £1 for every point the MDax 50 rises or falls.
Spread Betting on the Market to Increase
If you bought the MDax 50 at 9496 and the index increased then the spread might become 9591 - 9621. If that happened, you could close your spread trade at 9591.
P&L = (closing level of the market - opening level of the market) x stake per point
P&L = (9591 - 9496) x £1 per point stake
P&L = 95 points x £1 per point
P&L = £95 profit
Financial markets also move down, if the market decreased to, as an example, 9387 - 9417, you may want to close your spread bet to restrict your losses. Therefore, you would sell the market at 9387.
Therefore, with the same £1 per point stake:
P&L = (closing level of the market - opening level of the market) x stake per point
P&L = (9387 - 9496) x £1 per point stake
P&L = -109 points x £1 per point
P&L = -£109 loss
5) How do you Spread Bet on the MDax 50 Market to Go Down?
A useful benefit of placing a spread bet is that investors can short the markets.
The initial market was priced at 9466 - 9496.
If you were to sell the MDax 50 at 9466 and the index decreased then the spread could change to 9332 - 9362. In that case, you could close your spread bet at 9362.
P&L = (opening level of the market - closing level of the market) x stake per point
P&L = (9466 - 9362) x £1 per point stake
P&L = 104 points x £1 per point
P&L = £104 profit
The markets can of course rise, if the market increased to, as an example, 9556 - 9586, you could choose to close your bet to limit your losses. Assuming this was the case, you would buy at 9586.
So, with the same £1 per point stake:
P&L = (opening level of the market - closing level of the market) x stake per point
P&L = (9466 - 9586) x £1 per point stake
P&L = -120 points x £1 per point
P&L = -£120 loss
