If you are going to spread bet on an index like the Singapore Stock Market Index then, on visiting a spread trading company's website, you may see a spread of 3196.8 - 3198.8.
Therefore, you can spread bet on the Singapore Stock Market Index to go above 3198.8 or below 3196.8.
If you are spread trading, you bet on every unit the market rises or falls; with the Singapore Stock Market Index market a unit is 1 point of the index's price movement.

One major advantage of placing a spread trade is that you can go short of the markets.
To start with, the market was 3196.8 - 3198.8.
