» US markets closed higher yesterday, recouping early losses, after data showed solid improvement in US job market in December, offsetting worries over the European contagion risks.
» Bank of America, the top gainer on the S&P 500 index, rallied 8.6%, while Citigroup and Morgan Stanley added 1.2% and 2.1%, respectively. This came after Deutsche Bank reiterated a positive view of banks, citing “encouraging signs” for the industry’s fourth-quarter earnings.
» JP Morgan and SunTrust Banks rallied 2.1% and 5.4%, respectively, after Deutsche Bank included the stocks in its ‘top picks’ list.
» Retailer, Macy's gained 3.9%, after it raised its dividend and outlook for the year.
» However, Boeing declined 1.1%, as it reported a delay in delivery of 787 Dreamliner and 747-8 jumbo jets.
» DJIA slid marginally to close at 12,415.7. NASDAQ climbed 0.8% to end at 2,669.9. S&P 500 ticked up 0.3% to settle at 1,281.1.

» Asian markets are trading lower this morning, led by losses in exporters, as rising bond yields in the European nations renewed worries about the Eurozone debt crisis, overshadowing improving economic data in the US.
» In Japan, exporters, Sony, Nissan Motor and Mazda Motor traded lower, amid fears that global demand would fall.
» Energy stocks, Inpex, Japan Petroleum Exploration and JX Holdings paced declines as crude oil prices lost ground.
» In Hong Kong, financial stocks, Bank of Communications, Hang Seng Bank and the Bank of East Asia traded lower, tracking a fall in their European peers.
» In South Korea, LG Electronics lost value, on news that Interdigital has filed a case against the company for alleged violations of its patents on 3G communication systems.
» Nikkei 225 index is trading 1.4% lower, at 8,370.9. Hang Seng index is trading 1.4% lower at 18,550.4, while the Kospi index is trading 1.7% lower at 1,832.7.
