» Oilfield services firm, Petrofac, the top gainer on the FTSE 100 index, jumped 5.1%, as it raised its profit guidance for this year.
» AMEC added 1.9%, as Citigroup upgraded its rating on the stock to “Buy” from “Sell”.
» Royal Dutch Shell, Tullow Oil and BG Group advanced between 2.7% and 3.2%, tracking a rise in crude oil prices.
» Man Group rallied 3.2%, after the hedge fund manager stated that it bought more shares.
» FTSE 100 soared 1.1% to settle at 5,490.2, while FTSE 250 climbed 0.6% to close at 9,961.0.

» US markets closed lower yesterday, extending its losses for the second day, after the Federal Reserve refrained from taking additional measures to bolster the economy. Moreover, lacklustre US retail sales data and continued concerns about the Eurozone debt crisis weighed on market sentiments.
» Best Buy, the top laggard on the S&P 500 index, declined 15.5% as its third-quarter profit plunged 29%, hurt by discounts to attract Black Friday shoppers.
» Amazon lost 4.8%, as Goldman Sachs reiterated its “Neutral” rating on the stock.
» Alcoa dropped 3.3%, and emerged as the top decliner on the DJIA index, while Caterpillar and FedEx retreated 2.4% and 3.3%, respectively, amid concerns about the global economic growth.
» Netflix fell 4.2%, amid report that Verizon has denied being in discussion for a possible bid to acquire the company.
» DJIA edged down 0.6% to 11,954.9. NASDAQ lost 1.3% to settle at 2,579.3. S&P 500 declined 0.9% to settle at 1,225.7.

» Asian markets are trading lower this morning, led by a sharp decline in exporters, tracking overnight losses on Wall Street, following report that US retail sales rose at the slowest pace in five months.
» In Japan, exporters, Sony, Honda Motor and Mazda Motor paced losses.
» Olympus lost value, as the company faces revised earnings deadline to avoid delisting from the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
» In Hong Kong, energy stocks, Cnooc and Petrochina traded lower, in line with a fall in crude oil prices.
» Homebuilder, Evergrande Real Estate, lost value, after the company reported a drop of 86% in its home sales in November compared to the previous month.
» In South Korea, Hyundai Motor lost value, amid speculation that its sales declined in the domestic market for the third consecutive month.
» Nikkei 225 index is trading 0.7% lower, at 8,491.0. Hang Seng index is trading 0.2% lower at 18,413.8, while the Kospi index is trading 0.6% lower at 1,853.8.
